Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops review

Pine Brothers is an American company with an interesting history. I prefer to support American owned companies whenever possible, so I think it’s great that Pine Brothers is “back in the USA.” I also like that I can pronounce every ingredient in their throat drops! According to the website, there are only five calories per drop, and they  are also gluten-free. That’s not important to our family, but it is very important to anyone with a gluten intolerance! The packaging does contain an allergen warning stating that they are manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts and tree nuts. Again, this is not an issue for our family, but it is so important to a family with any nut allergies.

I was sent a large supply of softish throat drops in both Wild Cherry and Natural Honey flavors. Wild Cherry is the favorite in our family! Initially, I did not like the Natural Honey flavor. I was quite disappointed, as Honey Lemon flavored cough and throat drops are my preference normally. I continued to use the Natural Honey flavor, to see if it “grew” on me, which it did. I still prefer the Wild Cherry, but I like the Natural Honey also. The drops are available in 32 count bags and 26 count pucks. My only complaint about the packaging is that the bags are not resealable. The pucks have a screw-off lid, so what we have been doing is using a puck and then refilling it with a bag. An entire bag will fit in an empty puck, but you have to make sure that the drops are evenly distributed in the puck or the lid won’t screw back on.

M’duine, Second Class Scout and I have been battling mild sore throats for the last week or so. Nothing horrible, and we don’t have any fevers, so we just need a little bit of symptom relief. In my case, I’m pretty sure it’s just the weather change that is doing it, because I deal with this every year. It’s been wonderful to have throat drops that I feel comfortable using whenever my throat gets that scratchy feeling. They provide symptom relief, without the numbing effect of many cough and throat drops. M’duine, Venture Scout and I all sing, Second Class Scout plays the trombone and Webelos Scout plays the trumpet, so we avoid numbing drops for all but the worst sore throats. As a bonus, I feel comfortable giving these drops to Stud when he asks for one, which is any time he sees someone else get one!

I was intrigued by “softish” in the name of these drops. The texture is very different from standard cough and throat drops. These truly are softish. They are firm, but pliable. They are not hard like standard drops. I am a cruncher. I crunch ice. I crunch suckers. I crunch hard candies. I even try to crunch Gobstoppers! So, of course, I crunch cough drops, which kind of defeats the purpose. I have noticed that I toy with the Softish Throat Drops in my mouth a bit, but I don’t chew them up the way I do standard drops. I believe this helps them fulfill their purpose more effectively.

Overall, we have been very happy with the Pine Brothers Softish Throat Drops. They are effective, pleasant tasting, and reasonably priced. You can purchase them in bulk quantities from PineBrothers.com. They are also available at many drug and candy stores, including CVS Pharmacy. If, like us, you don’t have a CVS within a 60-mile radius, Walgreens.com and drugstore.com also carry them.

You should also check out Pine Brothers’ facebook, Pinterest and Twitter pages. They run contests throughout the year, so check back often!

Cook’n Recipe Organizer – The ultimate kitchen utility!

I am always looking for the “perfect” way to organize our family’s recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists. You can imagine how excited I was to be given the opportunity to review the Cook’n Recipe Organizer recipe software available from DVO.com!

In addition, Maelduin and I have wanted to create a Family Cookbook to pass down to our children, and to give as Christmas gifts, for years. I think we’ve been talking about it for most of a decade now. We have even gone so far as to look at recipe organization software and tried to create templates that we liked in different word processing programs. Nothing was ever exactly what we wanted, though, so it has yet to come to fruition.
