The daily prompt for today asks, “Early bird, or night owl?”
I am most decidedly a night owl! I have struggled with insomnia my entire life and have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The combination of these two means that it is not entirely unusual for me to go a week or more with only a few hours of sleep each night, or even to miss a night of sleep entirely. I can also happily sleep eighteen hours straight through. And, yes, I really mean straight through – not waking up to use the powder room, maybe rolling over long enough to drink some water (but only if there is some on the night stand), and certainly not sitting up long enough to eat food!
Unfortunately, the “real world” is not exactly set up for night owls. I work at a standard office job, with standard office hours. I do the best I can with it, but I believe I would be so much more productive if I could work hours that adhere more closely to my natural rhythms. I worked second shift (14:00-22:30) as a bar back for a while and it was the best schedule ever! I also worked the closing shift at a coffee shop and love, love, loved it! Coffee and energy drinks are my BFFs, especially early in the mornings.
